Hersham Boys

I was recently quite fortunate to do some publicity work for Sham69! A bit of a double bonus as the lead singer Tim is a Millwall fan like myself. Tim asked me to create caricatures of each of the band members including himself . I’m glad they weren’t too offended by their likenesses! There was this picture (Below) that you can see at Sham69 website

From left to right: Al Campbell, Ian Whitewood, Dave Parsons and Tim V

and a more colourful version that you can find here in the ‘people’ gallery.

For anyone interested Sham69 were a pioneering punk band from the seventies/early eighties who charted hit songs like ‘Hersham Boys’ and ‘If the kids are united’. They are still very much touring and playing live to audiences all around the world.

Golden age Sci-Fi

I’ve done quite a few of the “Artist Q&A” for ImagineFX magazine, but it’s always good to answer a question with artwork that you really enjoy doing. My contribution to issue 56 was exactly that! It was a lot of fun to do and great to see it in print too. I tend to do more fantasy related work for a lot of my clients so this was a nice change of pace with some Science Fiction (something I don’t do enough of). I couldn’t help but think of Kelly Freas when I painted my ‘Golden age Sci-Fi’ alien with all the tentacles and stuff; I guess he was my inspiration for this project.

I’ve always been a sucker for nostalgia and pulp fiction, or pulp science fiction if you prefer. When it comes to the golden age of sci-fi it’s the period from the 1940’s to the 1980’s that interests me the most , especially the great artists that illustrated during that wonderful era.

Fantasy Football

Football is definately big on my agenda lately! Not only did I get to see Millwall win their first Wembley final (their first ever playoff triumph) but I also got to paint something along a football theme for Imagine FX magazine recently.

They’re having a competition for their readers to paint a fantasy football team player, ‘Fantasy’ being the key word! Now that the competition is official I can post the image I painted to help promote the competition.
It’s meant to be Wayne Rooney depicted as a troll Orc like character, hopefully its still a reasonalble likeness despite the fantasy embelishments.

I also get to be on the judging panel for the competition (which is pretty cool) so I’m looking forward to seeing all the entries that come in.  Should be a lotta fun!

Here’s a link to the competition Imagine FX fantasy football

Still on the football theme the world cup kicks of this friday with England playing their first match on saturday. I’ve got my fingers crossed for a great start to the tournament!
